A collection developed with mass & proportion for the Cadillac Service Garage
We are Tom & Jay Jung, brothers and Soulcraft Lighting co-founders. We grew up building houses with our father, who was an industrial arts teacher and contractor - it was like shop class at home every day. Our chores were not typical and our tasks were not small. We worked timbers and metal pieces with hand, power & machine tools and fell in love with manual craftsmanship. We’ve been designing and building things every since. Those things just kept getting bigger as we got older. Tom went on to pursue the technical, practical trades - becoming a journeyman welder and wood craftsman for years in Montana. Jay studied the fine arts and built a graphic design career specializing in interior design. After years of practicing apart, our paths were brought together on nationwide projects where the two disciplines complemented each other. Our artful concepts actually took form and became real by leveraging years of experience & technique learned at the bench... not just beauty, but functionality. Not just theory, but practicality.
Recently, we found the need to create our own large-scale lighting for an industrial renovation in Greensboro, North Carolina. We wanted to design and build the perfect lighting as the finishing touch for a cavernous 80-year old abandoned Cadillac dealership. The high volume space needed scaled, thoughtful fixtures, balanced with mass & function. Anything less wouldn’t honor the soul of this special space. We began by prototyping pendants, drums and sconces out of industrial materials already present in the building. Our designs favored function and showcased materials individually selected, fit for purpose. We hand rubbed steel sheets. We cut reclaimed factory timbers and steel channel in every conceivable sconce size. We emptied buckets of assorted hardware for just the right accent. The result is five debut fixtures in our first Soulcraft line. We call these industrial art pieces - with a nod to our shop class training - because lighting can be the art that transforms a great space. We hope your space can benefit from these unique, custom created fixtures that tell our story.

In order to see a solution, sometimes prototypes need to be developed. Once something is in your hands, informed decisions on the final approach are clear. Don't wait for months to see an idea.
We work out our ideas at the bench here in the US, so you get it back quickly.
At the heart of Soulcraft is design. Form & function together in the best possible light. On any given day, we are either at the design table or the bench. Really, it's the same place either way.
